5 Simple Hosting Hacks to Keep it Simple this Summer

5 Simple Hosting Hacks to Keep it Simple this Summer
Pink sqiggle Ice Cubes Ice Cubes

Let’s be honest — summer hosting can feel like a lot. The prep, the logistics, the constant “can I get you anything?” loop that means you spend the whole afternoon running back and forth to the kitchen. But it genuinely doesn’t have to be that way. With a few smart tweaks, you can throw a brilliant summer gathering that feels effortless for you and absolutely amazing for your guests. Sound good? Here are our five favourite hacks to keep it simple next time you host this summer!

  1. Set Up a Help-Yourself Drinks Station

This one is an absolute game-changer and honestly, once you try it, you’ll never go back. Instead of playing bartender all afternoon, dedicate a table or a shady spot in the garden to a self-serve drinks station — and let your guests take the wheel!

Load it up with everything they could possibly need: a big tub of Party Ice, bottles of fizz, soft drinks, juices, and a few garnishes like lemon slices and fresh mint. Label things clearly if you like, or keep it beautifully casual — either works! The key is making it feel inviting and abundant, so guests feel genuinely free to help themselves without needing to ask.

Not only does this take a huge task off your hands, it actually makes your party feel more relaxed and social. People gather around the drinks station, conversations start, and suddenly you’ve created a natural social hub without even trying. Win!

Ice hack: Keep a generous supply of Party Ice in an insulated bucket or cool box nearby so the station stays cold all afternoon without needing constant topping up. If you’re gang are big spirit fans, larger cubes like Super Cubes melt far more slowly than choices like crushed ice — making them perfect for keeping those drinks properly chilled from first guest to last!

  1. Go Big with Sharing Cocktails

Individual cocktails are lovely, but making them one at a time? Absolute chaos at a party. The solution is wonderfully simple: make one giant one instead!

Pitchers, fishbowls, or large drinks dispensers are your new best friends. Mix up a big batch of your favourite cocktail or mocktail before guests even arrive — think a vibrant Aperol Spritz, fan favourite Pornstar Martini’s, or a classic Pimm’s — and let it sit looking gorgeous on your drinks station. Guests can pour their own glass whenever they like, and you’re completely freed up to actually enjoy the party.

Batch cocktails also get better as they sit and the flavours meld together, so there’s a real argument for making them ahead of time anyway. What’s not to love?!

Ice hack: Add ice to individual glasses rather than directly into your pitcher or dispenser — this way your cocktail stays perfectly mixed and won’t get diluted as the ice melts. Keep a scoop and a full bucket of Party Ice right next to your serving vessel so guests can sort themselves out without any fuss!

  1. Make Food a Sharing Situation

Plated individual meals? Lovely for a dinner party, but a total headache for a relaxed summer gathering! Instead, lean fully into the sharing plate approach and watch everything immediately feel more convivial and low-pressure.

Big bowls of salads, platters of antipasti, boards loaded with cheese, charcuterie, dips and bread — these not only look spectacular on a table, but they mean you can put everything out once and largely forget about it. People serve themselves at their own pace, they graze, they go back for more of what they loved, and the table becomes a real centrepiece of the event.

Think colourful, think abundant, think easy. Maybe a refreshing watermelon and feta salad or a creamy caprese with extra basil. The more it looks like a feast, the more your guests will feel absolutely looked after — even if the whole thing took you 20 minutes to assemble!

Ice hack: For anything that needs to stay cold on the table — prawns, smoked salmon, oysters, chilled dips — nestle the serving bowl inside a larger bowl filled with The Crushed One. It keeps everything food-safe and fresh for hours, and honestly? It looks incredibly posh too!

  1. Prep Everything You Can the Day Before

This isn’t a glamorous hack, but it is a transformative one! The number one reason hosts feel stressed is that they’re still finishing things off when guests arrive. The fix? Ruthlessly move as much as possible to the day before.

Marinate the meat. Mix the cocktail base. Chop the vegetables. Make the dips. Set up the table. Prep the garnishes and pop them in little bowls in the fridge. The morning of your party should feel calm and light — a few final touches, a quick tidy, and then you actually get to get ready without the chaos.

When you’re feeling relaxed and ready when your first guests arrive, that energy is completely contagious. Your party starts well, and it stays that way!

Ice hack: Stock up on your ice in advance and store it in a cool box or freezer bag so it’s ready to go on the day. Running out of ice mid-party is one of the most avoidable hosting disasters — and having plenty to hand means your drinks station, serving platters and cocktail station are all sorted without a second thought.

  1. Create One Wow Moment — Then Keep the Rest Simple

Here’s the secret that experienced hosts know: you don’t need to make everything spectacular. You just need one thing that makes people go “oh, wow!” — and then you can keep everything else beautifully simple.

Maybe it’s an eye-catching grazing table overflowing with colour and texture. Maybe it’s a dramatic fishbowl cocktail crowned with edible flowers and fruit. Maybe it’s a mouth-watering dessert you picked up from a local bakery and presented as your centrepiece. Whatever it is, make that one thing feel really considered — and let the rest be easy!

Guests will remember the wow moment. They won’t remember whether you made the hummus from scratch or bought it from the shop. Give yourself permission to make life easier, and spend your energy on the one thing that’ll really land!

Ice hack: If you want a simple wow moment that’s genuinely easy? A beautiful, overflowing ice bucket or a drinks tub packed with The Crushed One, half-submerged bottles of wine and fresh citrus fruits and flowers looks effortlessly luxurious and takes about three minutes to set up. Cold drinks, gorgeous aesthetic, instant party vibes — done!

Here’s to a summer of actually enjoying your own parties! The truth is, your guests are there for you — your company, the fun, the feeling of being invited into something lovely. They’re not judging your food prep or counting your ice cubes. So keep it simple and take the shortcuts, set up the self-serve station, batch the cocktails, and get yourself a drink. You’ve earned it!
